Gov. Bobby Jindal on Thursday in Bossier City called support for the proposed Cyber Command "the single most important economic development project for our entire state," and then pledged $57 million from the state toward the effort.
Surveyors marking ground for the new Cyber Innovation Center and bombers and fighters from Barksdale Air Force Base served as punctuation for Jindal's remarks to a friendly and enthusiastic crowd of students, faculty and elected officials from both sides of the aisle at Bossier Parish Community College.
Jindal outlined what he called "an aggressive agenda," for the special session beginning Sunday, designed to spend a $1 billion state surplus wisely.Toward the end of just under a half-hour of brisk talk, Jindal focused on the area most of the people had come to hear, $57 million toward the new Cyber Innovation Center and improvements to Interstate 20/I-220, providing better access to Barksdale Air Force Base, now home of the provisional Cyber Command.
Jindal reminded people that attending the January groundbreaking for the Cyber Innovation Center, intended to complement Cyber Command, was one of his first official acts as governor.
"It was $50 million then," he said, adding that the extra $7 million was money he'd learned could help and that he thought would be a good investment.
"We're going to do what it takes," he said.
