Agenda would boost state road funds- March 6, 2008

State aid for roads and bridges would gradually rise by $250 million per year under  Gov. Bobby Jindal’s agenda for a special session that begins Sunday.

The new money would come from moving sales tax dollars from car and truck sales to a fund that finances transportation needs only.

 

That money now finances a wide range of state services, and any such move is sure to trigger opposition in the Legislature, especially from higher education and health-care interests.

 

Lawmakers and groups that backed a similar effort last year said they were pleased to see the issue included on Jindal’s special session agenda issued Tuesday.
